Overview

How the  Biochemistry of collagen results in vEDS symptoms.

Col3 is essential for life, as it is incorporated into the walls of major blood vessels or organs.

The symptoms of vEDS all stem from the disruption of the triple helix and general lack of bioavailability of functional Type III collagen.

Symptoms such as aneurysms, arterial, intestinal, uterine fragility, organ rupture (e.g. bowel, womb, spleen, liver, intestine), pneumothorax (lung collapse) and vascular ruptures all occur due to this.

Even with mild forms of vEDS due to the weak/disrupted covalent bonding between the alpha helices, it is only a matter of time before the organs and vessels become so weak that they rupture, even when only exposed to a tiny amount of force.
